  • iTunes stops downloading podcasts without user direction

Submitted as a bug to Apple:

When a podcast is not listened to for either five new episodes or five days, iTunes will take it upon itself to stop downloading the podcast, even though the user has not directed it to behave in such a manner. Neither is there any user-accessible setting to turn off or adjust this behaviour when it is unwanted by the user. This is an improper behavior for iTunes to take, considering users may wish listen to their podcasts in batches at a frequency longer than Apple’s fixed number of days and/or episodes.

Thankfully, an AppleScript has been created by Doug to work around this by batch-updating all your podcasts. Also useful is the script that allows you to batch download missing episodes for podcasts that may have been skipped.

  • Wireless Phone Insurance with Cingular Wireless

So, I’m reading over my cell phone bill— which I never really do since it’s on auto-pay, and I pretty much just ignore it— and I notice that I’m being charged for insurance on my wife’s RAZR, but not on my Treo. Since I requested coverage for both of them when we upgraded last year, […]

  • Bulk Waste

I have several weeks off before I have to go back to work full time on the next season of our TV show, so I’m using some of that to finally get my home office and screening room organized. All the books are now labeled with Dewey Decimal Classification numbers, which was probably a bit […]

  • Making a habit

This weekend, I bought a used elliptical trainer, so I have no more excuses. So, today is day two of exercising; get up, toss on some duds and go downstairs and “pedal” for a half hour while I watch the previous night’s The Daily Show. I wouldn’t dare to call it exercising “regularly” yet, but I think it’s a good start. The real trick was finding something to occupy my mind while my body does its thing.

Oh, and stretching afterwards is really important. I feel like I have more energy already, and not as sore as I thought I might. Yay!

  • Clue Detective Notes for OmniOutliner

For those of us that are incapable of using just a simple pencil and paper to keep track of your "detective notes" while playing clue, here’s an OmniOutliner template with pop-up lists for checking off whether you have it, or one of the other players — all six player names are included for completeness, or replace them with the actual names of the people you’re playing against.

  • Yay! Back Online!

SITM (and several of my other websites) are now back online. They were off for a couple of weeks due to a leaking pipe in our house that was flooding the wall next to all my computer and video equipment, not to mention the master jack for the FiOS connection to my house. We’ll be investigating a backup server solution so this doesn’t happen again. But for now at least, we’re back in business. Yay!
