I remembered this fondly from my high school days, but more remarkable now for the fact that the lead character, a high school cheerleader, was actually not in her mid-twenties when they filmed it. The effects range from hokey to ewwwwwww!!, and the cold war government conspiracy angle still plays pretty well.
All in all, a decent flick, and Frank Darabont co-wrote it, in an out-of-character turn away from Stephen King prison movies. Three stars.
I’ve been borrowing this Season 1 set from a friend of mine, and I have to say, it’s quite addictive. Thanks, Kelli!

K2 Films has released its science-fiction action film, “Radius,” as a two-disk, US$19.95 DVD. Despite being shot on 35mm film, in such locations such as California’s Death Valley, and featuring over 150 visual effects shots, “Radius” was made by a first-time director on a budget of under $60,000. The low budget was achieved through classic guerrilla filmmaking frugality, but also by extensive use of the Mac, director Helmut Kobler told MacMinute. Editing, music, sound and visual effects were all done on Macs using off-the-shelf software. Also, the director says he managed the whole production from a PowerBook G4, working mostly from various Starbucks cafes around Los Angeles.

The group I was with for last year’s 48 Hour Film Project, The Fuzz (who created the Washington DC winning entry, "Weather Man"), was this year followed by an NPR reporter. The 14 minute segment (twice as long as the finished film!) which resulted aired on NPR Weekend Edition earlier today, and is now archived on NPR’s website:

Well, it looks like the group I was with for the 48hr Film Project last year is going to be featured on NPR this weekend! Phil Harrell from NPR followed them around during this year’s 48 (of which I wasn’t a part, due to an unforseen work overnighter the day before), and this Sunday on Weekend edition, there’s going to be an epic 14-minute piece on The Fuzz—- That’s longer than the finished film!
To tie everything in, an official Fuzz website has been launched for the occasion. It’s great—- It’s like the Weekly World News, but instead of Batboy, it’s about us!

Agreed, it was an excellent episode, but— Nazi aliens? They’d better f’n have something planned to wrap that up without exploding my brain.
My guess is that’s the cliffhanger they were planning before they knew they were renewing for a new season, and figured it’d generate a write-in campaign of extraordinary magnitude.
Anyway…
Three more weeks of Deadwood, then no more good TV ’til Six Feet Under picks back up.

It’s very late, I’m very tired, and I’m in no condition to give a proper review, but let me just say this: This is a great movie. I mean, an amazingly great fucking movie. Seriously, I can only hope to maybe one day make a movie anywhere near as great as this one.
