Kick-ass! I’ve been wanting to get one of these microscopes for the kids for a while now!

Trying out MarsEdit made me realize it’s been quite a while since I’ve tried Ecto, a competing blogging tool, and looking at the new version, I think I like it. I really prefer the rich text editing area, but it’s also nice to have the option of going back to the HTML when I need to do something schmancy. I also really appreciate the iPhoto, iTunes and Amazon integration. For instance, right now, I’m listening to:

That’s pretty slick. Yeah, this may just be going into my arsenal. Still not quite as nice as seeing my words in my website as I type them, but at least I don’t have to be online to write.

NewsMacPro has been really flakey on me lately, so I thought I’d register NetNewsWire, and I see they’re running a special if you get the bundle with MarsEdit, so I’m trying that out. I’m not sure I like it so much, though. There’s no real WYSIWYG to speak of (the “live preview” doesn’t count— I should be able to edit WYSIWYG text, not just watch it type out in another window), and at least WordPress 2.0 has that in the browser itself if you use Firefox (it doesn’t seem to work in Safari). I think I’m going to pass. But still, NetNewsWire has my vote. Thanks, Brent!

Merlinn Mann has been doing a great series on 43 Folders this week called Inbox Zero, with tips on getting your email Inbox to zero messages. With having downloaded all the webmail from the last six months into my new laptop— now totaling 15,862 messages— I can use all the help I can get.

Now that I’ve got a ‘Book back, I’d much rather hit all of my email in one place, so with the help of Hawk Wings, I discovered this handy-dandy guide for getting your gMail in Apple Mail. So now I’m downloading six months worth of gMail into my ‘Book… Wish me luck. 😉

Well, it looks like it was just the power adapter after all, thankfully. The guys at MBS left the MacBook connected to a known good power supply overnight, and eventually it charged up. Plus, I got my new power supply via Airborne this morning— and surprisingly enough, they actually rang the doorbell and handed it to my wife, instead of just throwing it at the door and running like they usually do. So, good news all around.
