  • Saddam Captured

I just woke up to the news on WTOP that Saddam Hussein has been captured. I suppose it’s good news, but I’m not quite sure exactly how this changes things. Everyone seems to be very upbeat that this will really change the course of things for the better in Iraq, but no one has given […]

  • Late Shift

So, I’m still at work– look at that timestamp!! …after a particularly brutal weekend bout with Final Cut Pro, who made me its bitch. I’ll spare you the gory details, and leave it at this: I had to redo nearly two days worth of editing today. Errr… yesterday.

So, I’m sitting here, waiting for the Barwood Taxi to come, hoping it’s on the shorter end of the "up to an hour" estimate the calltaker gave me, and thinking what I’d like most right now is to have already been asleep in my own bed for the past four or five hours. Remind me not to stay out past Metro’s closing time again.

Anyway… I’m just tired and rambling and waiting from the driver to call. Hopefully sweet sleep will soon come.

Oh– remind me to tell you about my new shoes and socks. Y’know, when I’m coherent.

  • Shiny new cell phone, same old number

Well, it’s not new honestly— it belonged to my wife. But it is in fact shiny, so there’s that.

Anyway, the upshot is for all of you who tried to call me in the last week or so, but couldn’t get ahold of me because my damn Treo wouldn’t ring on incoming calls (amidst other freaky nonsense, likely resulting from some, er… percussive maintenance), that situation has now abated.

It’s still the same number, so feel free to call with abandon.

  • Blowers mar the joy of leaves

I find that I often agree with Roger Ebert’s reviews of movies, and again, I agree with him here, in a small essay against the most evil of powered lawn implements: the leaf blower.

As a side note, I have often said that if, at some point, I am to be responsible for a large amount of land, like a homestead or that artists’ village I keep dreaming about, I will require all of the groundskeepers to use hand-powered tool at all times, excepting if they need to prune a very large dying tree or something. Rakes and old-style push mowers are nearly as efficient, and much easier to abide when you’re trying to concentrate.

  • Humble pie.

I had a humbling conversation this morning with an editor friend, about how when you’re around people more creative than you, you feel energized, like you’re going to suck some of it up just by being around them; whereas when you spend a great deal of time around people duller than you, you’re made to […]
